Happy Fourth of July!

How do you celebrate the Fourth of July? Does your family have any traditions? What are your favorite snacks and treats for the big day?

My kids have grown up in Italy, but I still like to do something small for the 4th of July each year. Here in Italy our festivities are obviously a little more simple. No fireworks, and no one else is celebrating. When the kids were little I loved to buy them something red, white and blue to wear just for fun! We began a tradition of making a red, white and blue treat or craft together and enjoying a barbecue in our back yard. It almost feels like home.

If you want an easy festive treat for the 4th, then this is the one for you! All you need is to buy your favorite red and blue fruits. I stuck with blueberries, raspberries and strawberries, but you can change things up if you prefer. And alternate rows of white chocolate covered pretzels (or yogurt covered pretzels) with the red fruit. Make a square with the blueberries in the lefthand corner and to create “stars”, I just placed a few white chocolate chips on top. The result was a healthy, fun and festive option for our fourth of July table.

You can make your own white chocolate pretzels with melting chocolate. Just melt your white chocolates and dip your pretzels in. Allow them to cool on wax paper until the chocolate has hardened. Our family adores Flipz brand white fudge pretzels. We are literally addicted! Have fun creating your own flag!

Happy fourth! No matter where you are I hope you are enjoying your family and your freedom.
