Table Talk

How is your table talk?!

When you sit at the table is everyone tempted to be on their phone? To watch TV? Do you only get yes or no in answer to your questions?

How can you make table time more special? We asked ourselves this question a few years back… and came up with the idea of table talk. We wanted to create connection, to get to know each other better in each new phase of the kid’s lives and to encourage listening, sympathy and healthy relationships. It’s simple really. Just ask open ended questions!

And to make it even more simple I created a printable for you to print and use as a fam!

Start by making a pretty jar to keep your questions in (here are a few ideas). Like this simple heart jar that we made for ours:

After your jar is dry and ready to go, print out the free printable questions and cut out each square. Fold them in half and stick them in your jar! So easy!

At every meal 1 person can pick a question and read it aloud. Then everyone has to answer their question.

Here are a few fun ideas for questions to ask:

  • What makes you laugh?
  • What is your dream vacation?
  • What is 1 thing that you are thankful for?
  • What are you excited about this week?
  • When do you feel the most proud of who you are?

There are 36 questions in all. I hope this simple idea can help create meaningful conversation at your table! It’s an easy place to start!

Happy family time!
