Nutcracker Party treats

I love the Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky. The music is beautiful and I always loved the ballet. It is also the perfect story for the holidays.

My little ballerina always loved her Nutcracker book. So for her 5th birthday we celebrated with a Nutcracker theme.

There are so many cute ideas for Nutcracker themed food.

I thought it would be fun to create a cupcake cake this year. The kids always seem to prefer cupcakes and it is so much easier than trying to slice up and serve a cake on little paper plates.

I created three types of cupcakes:

The first was this beautiful Nutcracker cupcake cake. I think he turned out adorable!

For supplies for the Nutcracker cake you will need: cupcakes, frosting, red sugar crystals, yellow, blue and pink mini M&Ms, chocolate “tube-shaped” cookies, chocolate cookies, and yellow, red, peach and white frosting.

For supplies for the gingerbread house cupcakes you will need: graham crackers (or similar flat cookies), round sprinkles or mini M&Ms, frosting, and tic tacs. Aren’t they cute?!

And last of all I made ballerina cupcakes. I created these toppers using real tulle and paper. These were probably the little girl’s favorites!

I love adding special little touches to birthday parties…

Like these adorable ballerina skirt forks! Aren’t they cute?! And so easy! Just use a cupcake liner folded in half and stick your fork through the center. Secure it with a dab of hot glue and add a little bow if you would like! Now your forks look like Sugar Plum fairies.

I also made gingerbread men shaped sandwiches, and little Nutcracker candies from Oriental Trading Company. I also made “sugar plums”: purple grapes and the Sugar Plum Fairy’s wand. . . brownie pops covered in white chocolate and purple sugar crystals, with wands in them for the girls to keep.

I also made cute little Mouse King sandwiches complete with ears, tail and mousey nose. My favorite part were the ballerina shoe cookies. They were simple sugar cookies decorated with white chocolate and coated with purple sugar crystals. Lastly, I made fairy popcorn. It was white chocolate covered popcorn with sprinkles. . .and so delicious!

The birthday girl loved her treats!

It was the perfect way to celebrate our sweet little sugar plum fairy! And a great theme for the holiday season!
