Magic Sand

Who doesn’t love to build sand castles in the sand? And the invention of moon sand was pretty cool, the way it hold together so easily. This magic sand is similar to kinetic sand in it’s ability to hold it’s form and squish and build castles with. Because there is no actual “sand” in it, the texture is different- it’s softer to the touch. Your kids will love squishing their own sand and creating towers and castles and you will love how easy this recipe is!!!!

You will need only three simple ingredients:

  • 2/3 cups Baby oil
  • 1 1/2 cups Flour
  • 1/4 cup Corn Starch
  • 1/4 cup Baking Soda
  • 2 containers of Liquid Food Coloring/ or several drops of oil based food coloring

Mix together your flour and corn starch first with a fork. Then add your baby oil and mix. We used our hands to knead the baby oil in. It is easier to make the mixture uniform and it makes your hands smell yummy anyways!

Add food coloring to your baby oil and stir vigorously with a fork (oil based is better, as water based will not mix well, but will still work. Add the oil a little at a time until you reach the desired consistency.

Knead the dough well with your hands, evenly distributing the baby oil and food coloring evenly throughout the flour.

That’s it! It’s that easy! Now grab a tray or some bins and dump your sand in with some cups, plastic knives, and other small tools to play with. And have fun! It’s so easy and a fun way to keep little hands busy!

Happy creating!
