The Best Sugar Cookie Recipe

This is our absolute favorite cookie recipe! It is easy, keeps perfect edges without spreading and it delicious!!

Recipe:

  • 1 cup butter (room temperature)
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla bean paste (or vanilla extract)
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • No need to refridgerate! Roll out to 1/4 inch. Cut out shapes. Bake at 350° F for approximately 7-8 minutes

Begin by creaming your butter and sugar on high in your electric stand mixer. Mix until well blended, scraping sides of the bowl as you go.

Add your egg and vanilla to the mix and beat on medium-high speed with electric stand mixer until it is well blended. Make sure to scrape the sides of the bowl as you go.

In a separate bowl mix together your dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, and salt. Whisk the ingredients with a fork. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix just until blended. Do not over-mix.

The dough does not need to chill, but can be chilled an hour or over night.

Roll out the dough on a silicone mat. You want the dough to be approximately 1/4 inch thick. Use cookie cutters to create the shapes that you like.

Bake in a preheated oven at 350° F for approximately 7-8 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.

Allow to cool completely.

While they are cooling melt your chocolate. You can use white chocolate, melting chocolates, dark or milk chocolate. I like to decorate my sugar cookies using melting chocolates.

You can decorate your cookie with colored melting chocolates to look like a pineapple, or flamingo or whatever the object is or just dip your cookie into chocolate and set it on wax paper to allow it to harden. Then sprinkle the cookies with sprinkles for a festive touch!

Happy Baking!
