Easy Homemade Playdough!

This easy recipe is non-toxic: perfect for the littlest of hands!

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/3 cups of All purpose Flour
  • 3/4 cup Salt
  • 4 teaspoons Cream of Tartar
  • 2 cups Lukewarm Water
  • 2 Tablespoons olive oil (or vegetable oil)
  • 4 drops of peppermint (optional)
  • Food Coloring

Begin by mixing your dry ingredients into a large saucepan. Add your 2 1/3 cups flour, 3/4 cup salt, and 4 teaspoons of cream of tartar and whisk until well blended.

In a glass measuring cup measure 2 cups of lukewarm water. Then add your 2 tablespoons of oil and peppermint to the water. Stir with a spoon and then add to your dry ingredients.

Turn your heat on medium-low. Be careful to stir AT ALL TIMES because it will burn if you don’t. Try and smash out clumps as you stir, creating a smooth paste.

Stir your mixture constantly until it thickens into a large clump of “dough”. Don’t worry if there are clumps left. You can knead them out when you add the food coloring.

Scoop out balls of the dough onto parchment paper or wax paper and allow to cool. Make as many balls as you want to make colors (i.e., if you are going to make red, yellow, green and blue, then make 4 balls, etc).

When the balls have cooled, drop 4-6 drops of food coloring gel on top of your dough and knead the dough well until the food coloring is well distributed and the dough is smooth. Place the dough in separate plastic bags and allow to cool the rest of the way before playing with it.

That’s it! So easy!

Grab some cookie cutters and rolling pins and have fun with your very own homemade playdough!!

Happy creating!
