Dream Catchers

Create your own dream catcher with just a few supplies and easy steps!

Material:

  • Paper plate
  • Hole punch
  • Feathers
  • String or yarn
  • Decorations you would like to add: beads, glitter, paint, marking pens, stickers, etc

Begin by cutting the center out of your plate.

If you would like to, keep the center circle and cut out a simple shape using the paper that is leftover. I used a heart, but you can also create a star or a diamond.

Now you need to punch holes around the inside of you plate. Do not make them closer than about an inch apart, so that the paper plate does not become to flimsy. Our paper plates are sturdy, but if yours is flimsy you can glue two plates rims together and allow it to dry completely before you begin your project.

Now set the heart in the center of your circle.

Begin by threading the yarn up through the hole, in through the heart, and then back over to the holes- alternating holes as you go.

When you have made it around your circle once, then keep going through the unused holes this time. Always alternate between: hole, heart, hole, changing direction of the string as you go (in, out, in, out).

When you finish tie off the two end of you string along the back side of your dream catcher, or tie a large knot in each end of the thread so that it will not slip through the hole (I found tying them off felt more secure, and I was able to tighten the string better).

Next punch three to four holes at the base of your dream catcher. Tie a piece of string from each whole. You can decorate the hanging string with beads and glue a feather to the end of each string with a knot and a hot glue gun.

Next decorate the top of your dream catcher if you would like. We added foam flowers to one, and kept the other two simple.

Punch a hole at the center of the top of your dream catcher and place a string through it to hang your dream catcher from.

That’s it! Super easy and very pretty. We loved the addition of the shapes in the middle!

Now hang it up in your window or on your door to add a little color to your room.

In peace I will both lie down and sleep;
for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Psalms 4:8

We added this verse on the back of our dream catchers, because a piece of paper can’t keep away anxiety or bad dreams, but it can remind us that we can sleep in peace because God will take care of us!

Happy creating!
