Thanksgiving Keepsake

These sweet little Turkeys are made even sweeter with the keepsake handprints of your little one!

Celebrate Thanksgiving this year by making a keepsake turkey with your kiddos. You only need a few simple supplies…

Supplies:

  • Felt: brown, orange, red and colored for the feathers (we used red, yellow and orange)
  • A Large pinecone
  • Small googley eyes
  • Hot glue gun

Begin by tracing your little one’s hands onto the felt.

You can trace both hands or just trace their right hand. Try spacing out their fingers at different intervals for each color in order to spread the feathers out on the back of your turkey.

Cut out their felt handprints. You will want around 3 handprints of different colors.

The flat end of the pinecone is where you will glue the turkey body. The pointed end is where you will glue the handprint feathers.

Using the hot glue gun place your feathers at the center of the rounded end of your pinecone. You will be gluing the palm of your handprint onto the center of the pinecone. Make sure to hold them up to the back before you glue them on so you can see how much they stick up. You want them to stick up over the top so they look like feathers.

Next Cut out your Turkey body, beak, feet and wattle. Glue your turkey together completely before attaching it to your pinecone. It is easier to glue it together on the flat table, than sticking the small pieces onto the pinecone on at a time.

Once your turkey body is completed with eyes, beak, feet, and wattle glue him onto the center of the bottom of your pinecone. Directly across from your feathers. Take care to glue the Turkey head facing in the same direction as the feathers so that you don’t end up with an upside down turkey!

That’s it! You made your own adorable Turkey keepsake.

Keep around to decorate for years to come! We’ve had ours for 5 years now and they are still in great shape!

Happy Thanksgiving week y’all!
